Ship to Us

You may ship a legally owned firearm to our shop for repair, customization, transfer, or other lawful work. We are a licensed FFL. Call, text, or email first so we can send a current signed copy of our FFL and confirm the shipping address. For hours and appointments, see Contact.

Rifles and Shotguns

A private owner may mail an unloaded rifle or shotgun to our FFL through USPS. Use a service with tracking and signature on delivery. Tell the clerk the package contains a firearm. Do not mark the outside of the box as a firearm.

For carrier labels, we recommend Pirate Ship. UPS Ground is our preferred shipping service when you are not using USPS. Other carriers can work when needed; call or text if you are unsure which option fits your shipment.

Handguns

A private owner may not mail a handgun through USPS. UPS and FedEx generally accept firearm shipments only from approved FFL shippers. The practical method is to take the handgun to a local FFL and have that dealer ship it to us.

Before You Pack

• Unload the firearm completely. Check the chamber, magazine well, and cylinder.
• Do not put ammunition in the box.
• Remove detachable magazines if they will rattle or shift.
• Place the firearm in a padded case or wrap it so it cannot move.
• If you ship in a hard case, place the hard case inside a plain cardboard overbox. Do not ship a bare hard case as the outer package.
• Cover any gun-related logos, brand marks, or other markings on the case or packaging so they are not visible from the outside.
• Put the padded case (or the hard case in its overbox) inside a plain, sturdy cardboard box when that is not already the outer carton.
• Do not write “firearm,” “gun,” “Gunsmithing,” a brand name, or any other gun-related wording on the outside of the box or on the shipping label.
• Keep a record of the serial number and tracking number for your own records.

What to Put Inside the Box

• Your full name, phone number, and email
• A photocopy of your government photo ID
• A short note describing the work requested
• A copy of our signed FFL if we asked you to include it
• If another FFL is shipping for you, a copy of that dealer’s FFL

How to Address the Package

On the shipping label and outer box, use DHG Precision as the recipient name. Do not use “Double H Gunsmithing,” “gunsmith,” or any other gun-related wording on the label or carton. Ship only to our physical street address (not a home address or P.O. box). Use adult signature required.

Call, text, or email before you ship so we can send a current signed copy of our FFL and confirm this address.

Shipping Through Another FFL

If another FFL is shipping the firearm to us, we need a copy of the sending licensee’s FFL on file, and the sending FFL will need a copy of ours. Please have the sending FFL email an FFL request to [email protected] so we can exchange licenses before the gun ships.

NFA Items

Suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and other NFA firearms need approved ATF transfer paperwork before they leave the sender. Contact us before shipping any NFA item.

When It Arrives

We log the firearm into our records, inspect it, and contact you to confirm receipt and the work to be done. For a transfer to a new owner, the recipient must complete ATF Form 4473 and a NICS check at our shop before taking possession.
