Shotgun Choke Threading
Double H Gunsmithing threads fixed-choke shotgun barrels for interchangeable choke tubes at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. We machine 12 gauge and 20 gauge barrels in house so you can run flush or extended tubes matched to the shooting you do.
Carlson’s is our preferred choke tube vendor. We sell choke tubes along with the threading service, so you can leave with a threaded muzzle and a practical tube set rather than hunting parts down on your own.
Gauges we thread in the shop
- 12 gauge
- 20 gauge
Those two gauges cover most of the field and clay guns that come through Blanch. For gauges not listed here, or for barrels with smaller diameters than the minimums below, we recommend sending the barrel to Briley Manufacturing for threading. We can pack and ship that work for you through our Shipping Services page.
Minimum bore diameters
Before we cut, we check that the muzzle has enough wall for the choke system you want. These are the minimum inside diameters we work to:
| Choke system | Minimum diameter |
|---|---|
| Win Choke (12 gauge) | .849" |
| Rem Choke (12 gauge) | .849" |
| Tru-Choke (12 gauge) | .830" |
| Tru-Choke thin wall / Tru-Choke small diameter (12 gauge) | .810" |
| Tru-Choke (20 gauge) | .720" |
If your barrel measures under the minimum for the system you want, we will say so before machining. In that case we recommend Briley Manufacturing, and we can ship the barrel for you through Shipping Services.
What we do
- Thread fixed-choke muzzles for interchangeable choke tubes
- Fit flush or extended tubes, including Carlson’s tubes sold with the job
- Advise on constriction choices for birds, clays, turkey, or general field use
- Function-check the install so tubes seat and remove cleanly
Bring the barrel or the complete gun fully unloaded. If you already own tubes or a choke wrench, bring those too so we can confirm pattern and thread compatibility before we cut.
What we do not thread
We do not thread chrome-lined barrels. Chrome lining and choke threading do not mix well in our process, and we will decline that work rather than risk a poor result. If you are unsure whether your barrel is chrome-lined, bring it in and we will check it.
Pricing
Shop labor for choke threading is estimated for your barrel. Carlson’s tube prices come from the maker and can change, so we do not publish tube figures here. Call or text for a current shop figure on 12 or 20 gauge work, and we will add tube cost when you want tubes with the job. Prices assume payment by cash or check unless we note otherwise. Lead times follow our general repair windows on the home page lead times table unless we give a different estimate for your job.
Getting started
Call or text 336-694-5739, or email [email protected]. Tell us the make, model, gauge (12 or 20), and whether you want threading only or a Carlson’s tube package. We will confirm the work and a rough starting estimate. If you are shipping a barrel in, see Ship to Us on the Contact page.
