Wood Refinishing
Double H Gunsmithing refinishes wooden stocks and forends at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. We can refresh a worn stock on its own or pair wood work with metal refinishing as part of a fuller restoration.

What we offer
A complete wood refinish typically includes stripping the old finish, preparing the surface, staining and sealing for an even color, and reassembling with a metal-to-wood fit check. We offer matte, satin, and high polish finishes.
When wear covers a broad area of the stock, a complete refinish is the clean path to an even result. Spot work is better suited to small isolated defects or the limited wood attention that goes with a wall-hanger treatment on the metal side.
Semi-inlets and stock making
We can perform final fit and finish on a 95% semi-inlet that you supply. For shaping a stock from a blank, we recommend Gunville / Silver Hill Gun Stocks.
Checkering and related stock work
Checkering and recut checkering are offered as part of a major restoration already in the shop, not as a stand-alone job. Related work available here includes glass bedding, barrel free-float, length-of-pull adjustment, and inletting.
Recoil pad installation
We install recoil pads as part of stock work or as a stand-alone fitting job. Our preferred pad is KICK-EEZ. We can also fit OEM replacements, Limbsaver, Pachmayr, and traditional red rubber pads from Galazan / Hawkins.

Combined wood and metal
Wood refinish pairs naturally with rebluing, including full restorations and wall-hanger treatments that keep an older patina on the metal while cleaning up the presentation.
Pricing and lead times
- Wood refinishing: generally starts at $200
- Complete wood refinish paired with reblue (typical sporting rifle): approximately $400
- Wall-hanger treatment (metal blend, cleaning, limited wood touch-up): approximately $150–$200
- Full restoration with checkering and metal refinish: quoted as a package
Every job is estimated after inspection. Figures are pre-tax and already reflect the four-percent cash discount in our usual practice.
