Triggers

Double H Gunsmithing performs trigger jobs on bolt-action rifles and action jobs on revolvers at our shop in Blanch, North Carolina. That work includes lightening a heavy factory pull, cleaning up creep and overtravel, smoothing a revolver action, or bringing a hunting or range gun to a safer, more predictable break.

This work is safety-critical. We adjust and verify the job with the full firearm on hand whenever possible, and we test with a few rounds of test fire ammo when the cartridge and setup allow. Please contact us to discuss your firearm, the pull or feel you want, timeline, and pricing before work begins.

Bolt-action trigger jobs

On bolt-action rifles, we advertise this work as a trigger job: adjusting or tuning the factory trigger for a cleaner, more usable pull for hunting, target, or general use.

Aftermarket bolt-action triggers

We also install aftermarket triggers on bolt-action rifles. Our preferred vendors are Timney Triggers and TriggerTech. We can also install other quality triggers when they fit the rifle, including Bix’n Andy. Ask us before you order a unit so we can confirm fitment and what the install will involve.

Revolver action jobs

On revolvers, this work is usually called an action job. That covers smoothing and refining the action and trigger feel as a whole, not only the trigger itself. If you have a revolver, ask for an action job when you call or text.

Our emphasis on an action job is getting a crisp break on the trigger and lowering the poundage when we are able, while keeping the gun 100% reliable. We will not chase a light pull that risks light strikes, failure to return, or unsafe timing.

If you ask for even lower poundage than we consider a normal reliable setup, we may ask for a signed safety waiver. We may also restrict that gun to Federal ammunition, or note that military primers cannot be used. Federal is known for having some of the softest primers on the American market, which matters more as mainspring weight comes down.

Smith & Wesson revolvers are ideal candidates for action jobs. Newer Colt revolvers (made under CZ ownership, we believe) are engineered differently and are fine for action jobs. Classic Colt revolvers are poor candidates, because it is easy to get the timing off when you stone and polish internal parts, and there is a good chance we will turn one of those away. Taurus and Ruger revolvers can produce reasonably good results.

For action jobs, we typically use springs from Wolff Gunsprings as our spring supplier.

Pricing

Those figures are starting points for straightforward work. Parts (springs, replacement components, and similar) are extra when needed. Final cost depends on the firearm, how much work is required to reach a safe, usable result, and any parts we agree to install. Prices on this site assume payment by cash or check unless we note otherwise.

What to bring

Please bring the full firearm in assembled condition when possible, fully unloaded, with magazines empty when applicable. Bring a few rounds of test fire ammo and at least one magazine if the gun is magazine-fed so we can verify safety and function after the job.
