Rebarreling

Double H Gunsmithing offers rebarreling and related barrel work for rifles and other firearms. That includes replacing a worn barrel, changing chambering, or fitting a new barrel to a receiver you already own. The right approach depends on the firearm, the barrel blank or take-off barrel, the intended cartridge, and how the gun will be used. Typical rebarreling work may include fitting a new barrel, chambering and headspacing to the chosen cartridge, crowning, and checking that the finished assembly is safe and serviceable. Exact steps vary by project. We will confirm what is needed after we review the firearm and your goals.

Barrel types

Not all rifle barrels are made the same way. Common methods for putting the rifling in include:

For accuracy and precision work, cut-rifled barrels are the best option in our experience. When the job calls for a premium blank, that is the class of barrel we prefer to start from.

Barrel vendors we recommend

Our preferred premium barrel vendor is Bartlein Barrels. We also recommend Krieger Barrels and Brux Barrels.

For more affordable pre-fit barrels, we recommend Shaw Barrels. For off-the-shelf and pre-fit barrels already set up for common actions, options include Bugholes, Red Hawk Rifles, and Bullet Central. Chamberings and reamer list

Below is our current reamer list: chamberings we can support with tooling on hand. Availability can change. If you do not see the chambering you need, ask us. Some work may still be possible with additional tooling or outside specialty help.

Suppressor threading

We thread muzzles for suppressors and muzzle devices as a regular shop service. Common pitches include 1/2-28 and 5/8-24. Bring the suppressor or mount specs when you can so we can verify fit before we cut. Full details, pricing, and what to bring are on our dedicated Suppressor Threading page.

Custom muzzle brakes

We also install and fit custom muzzle brakes, including threading and timing a brake to the barrel when the design requires it. Brake choice affects recoil, muzzle rise, and blast to the sides. We can help you select a practical option for hunting, competition, or general shooting, then machine and install it cleanly.
